This guide is for beginners, those who never traded assets on an online exchange platform.

This post is expressing the blogger opinions on trading for beginners and should be taken with a grain of salt, like for example the fact that 1,000 USD is nothing in noth america but it is big money in central africa.

I’m planning to publish 50 how to trade guides for beginners, this is not new and thousands of trading guide are available online. I learned a lot by reading other bloggers HOW TO TRADE GUIDES ? But i found some of those guides confusing.

1- Who is a trading begginer ?

Most beginners should start small with 1,000 USD for example, do simple basic things and avoid uncesary sophistication at this point. The basic question here is : where to start ?

How people measure things in trading ? is very simple : in dollars :

Trader level Portfolio size in USD
beginner 1,000
medium 100,000
advanced 1,000,000
Professional working for a fund 1,000,000,000

How can someone managing $1,000 trading portfolio use concepts, tools and technics used by professionnels managing $1B ? the picture here is the mechanic matching the socket wrench and the fastner size, a beginner should avoid useless sophistication and learn simple things at the beginning.

Dont forget that the goals of a novice trader who just started are simple :

  • 1- dont loose money,
  • 2- earn some money if the opportunity presents,...

2- Trading skills

the folowing table show the appropriate skills for a beginner :

beginner advanced
Charts reading yes yes
Technical analysis no yes
Fundamental analysis yes yes
DCA yes no
Technical analysis metrics no yes
spot yes yes
derivatives no yes

3- Technical analysis

Many crypto trading guides are talking about technichal analysis, trying to explain what technical analysis is. I considered to be an advanced set of skills, which is not approprite for a beginner.

4- Trading style

beginner advanced
DCA yes no
Swing Trading yes yes
Trend trading yes yes
scalping no yes
